When it comes to the question of what is acne, there are really a few different answers that need to be taken into consideration. Acne is an inflammatory disease of the skin, which is caused by changes in the skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland.
A common cause of acne is puberty, because the hormones in the body are heightened, and acne is basically considered as being an abnormal response to normal levels of the male hormone testosterone. Although this response tends to diminish for most people over time and the acne thus tends to disappear, for many people it remains around, and this is when treatment is usually required to prevent the occurrence of acne scars.

In order to further answer the question of what is acne, the most common form of acne is known as acne vulgaris, and many teenagers get this type of acne. It is caused by an excessive secretion of oils from the sebaceous glands accompanied by the plugging of the pores with naturally occurring dead skin cells blocking hair follicles.
There are various different misconceptions when it comes to acne information, and although acne is known to be partly hereditary, there are several other factors which are known as being linked to acne, such as: family history, hormonal activity such as menstrual cycles and puberty, stress, hyperactive sebaceous glands, skin irritation, and bacteria in the pores.
As well when it comes to the question of what is acne it is important to understand about the different forms of treatment that are available, and there are actually many products available on the market today that are sold for the treatment of acne pimples. Successful treatments will usually work within the first week or two of use and for more serious forms of acne different modes of treatment will generally be required.
Finally in the question of what is acne the issue of prevention must be discussed. Although most times acne is unavoidable, there are things that you can do in order to attempt to avoid it.
